[convekta server]Convekta engages in many diverse computer chess related activities. For instance, in addition to writing chess software, they are also involved with adding data to the CAP project and running their own chess server and computer accounts. All these activities are very compute intensive. In the past, most of this work was done on PCs, but with the advent of Chessplanet, Convekta had to move to a more reliable means for maintaining uptime.

The picture on the shows you what Convekta is currently using. While the Chessplanet server software was originally hosted on this machine, it is now being hosted elsewhere. However, things like CAP analysis, tablebase storage, computer cheat detection, and computer accounts all reside on this server. The server contains 8 blades, most of which are 1.4 Gig dual PIIIs, with (1) 2.4G PIV in there as well. They currently have over 900G of tablebase files, and will soon have over 1T (!). Convekta is working closely with Eugene Nalimov to make new files available on the server as soon as they are ready.

You can find more information on accessing the tablebase information in this article.
